School Admission Appeals. Section 1 of 4 Please note: an appeal can only be submitted if you have applied and your child has been refused a place to attend your preferred school. School Admission Appeals The updated school admission appeals code 2022 came into force on 1 October 2022 and applies to admission appeals submitted on or after that date. School admission appeals code - GOV.UK Guide to School Admission Appeals School Admission Appeals Guide Notification of hearing date and decision Appellants’ will be sent written notification of the appeal date at least 10 school days before the appeal hearing date unless the appellant has agreed that the notice period can be reduced. Appeal papers will be sent to appellants, the Panel and school at least 7 working days before the appeal date. Any further evidence/ information that the appellant wishes to submit should be received by the Clerk 3 days before the hearing. Documents submitted after this date may not be considered by the Panel. The decision of the Panel will be sent within 5 school days but where there are multiple appeals for one school this may be extended. In-Year appeals (appeals outside the co-ordinated admission round) Appeals lodged outside the normal admission round will be heard within 30 school days, following the receipt of the appeal form. Appellants will be sent written notification of the appeal date at least 10 school days before the appeal hearing date unless the appellant has agreed that the notice period can be reduced. Appeal papers will be sent to appellants, the Panel and school at least 7 working days in advance of the hearing date. Decision letters will be sent within 5 school days of the hearing. Your information may be shared with government and local authority departments and other authorised organisations for administrative, statistical and research purposes. YesNo Section 4 of 4 Notice of Hearing Date The Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel is required to give at least 10 school days notice of the hearing dates unless you are happy to waive this notice period. (this may result in the case papers being sent to you a few days before the hearing instead of the normal timescale). If you wish, you may send additional evidence with your form, which the Clerk will circulate to the appeals Panel. If medical or social grounds form part of your appeal, you should provide written evidence from a professional person, or the Panel may not be able to take these reasons into account.
